Welcome back to the Track Limits Podcast! Tune in with Henny and Swish as they unpack all the highlights from the recently concluded Monza Grand Prix.
Heading into the weekend, McLaren was the heavy favourite to win, but other teams had different plans. During all three practice sessions, Red Bull, Mercedes, and Ferrari worked tirelessly to fine-tune their cars to challenge McLaren. However, when qualifying began, it became clear that the McLaren duo was in a league of their own.
Lando Norris, who has a history of securing pole position only to lose it on the first lap, faced a similar fate this time. His own teammate, Oscar Piastri, made a calculated move and overtook him on the outside, a maneuver that many are calling the "overtake of the year." This bold move might have cost Norris in the driver’s championship, as Oscar finished in P2 and Lando in P3.
Meanwhile, home hero Charles Leclerc pulled off a stunning one-stop strategy to claim a dominant victory on Ferrari’s home turf. The Tifosi erupted in the final five laps as Charles fiercely defended his position against a hard-charging Oscar Piastri on fresher tires. With Ferrari’s new upgrade packages, this win gives them renewed hope that they can challenge McLaren in the upcoming races.
